Links to manufacturing related sites(links have a UK manufacturing company bias) |
||||||
| The internet is a vital source of information for managers and students in the field of ERP, MRP2,
and manufacturing planning and control in general. The difficulty is finding the most useful sites. Listed below are sites that we have found useful.
n.b. the references have a UK bias. |
.. | Jargon Warning - If you are not familiar with any of the terms used, you can look them up in the Jargon Buster page on this site or, for a more information, buy the book Business Excellence. This year's edition of Business Excellence is now available in e-book format in addition to the paperback . |

Software Selection Guide - you can purchase a practical guide to the selection of ERP manufacturing planning software which is included in the ERP Class "A" Implementation toolkit. For more details on ERP software selection click here.
The software packages referred to in the case studies of companies we have helped improved their planning and control processes are as follows (please refer to the case studies for more details):
BPCS (now Infor) - manufacturing planning software from SSA (Wrigley case study).
SAP R/3 currently the most popular high spec ERP package, it comes from Germany (Barden case study).
Uniman - for planning (Contico case study).
Preactor - a finite scheduling package (Contico case study).
Demand Solutions - forecasting and inventory management software (Contico case study).
Fourth Shift - a full function MRPII package that runs on networked PCs (Tortube case study).
Logol - a forecasting package now part of Forecast Pro (Sara Lee case study).
CINCOM - a manufacturing planning and control package (Sara Lee case study).
Sage line100- accounting and business software, no MRP functionality but stock control is suitable for smaller, non-manufacturing companies (VW Heritage case study).

Travel
www.timeout.co.uk - a useful
guide to major cities around the world with some interesting facts as well
as accommodation.
www.visitbritain.com - also a useful guide to the UK with a clickable map to get information and accommodation details for many towns. You need to select the "frames" version.
National Rail Enquiries - an excellent railway timetable for the UK. You enter start and finish stations and get the journey with times. You can then select an earlier or later train.
Another travel & timetable site that includes flight arrivals, channel tunnel times etc. is A2BTravel. The site also includes a searchable accommodation index with 33,000 listings of B&Bs to hotels with maps but with few details about the accommodation.
www.brighton.co.uk - as a Brighton resident (well Hove actually) I found my local page very interesting and useful. If you are visiting Brighton this page is worth a visit before you come.
Weather
The definitive weather site from the UK was the Met Office site. I now think the BBC weather site is better with 5 day forecasts for many more cities all over the world. The forecasts are getting more reliable too!
www.intellicast.com - fun satellite and weather maps around the world
